When you launch the app, your device's high-accuracy GPS receiver pinpoints your position. The system then defines a configurable scan radius — by default ten miles — around your coordinates. This radius acts as the boundary for all detection and alerting activity. If GPS is unavailable or permission is denied, the app falls back to a default area so you can still explore the interface.
Within the defined radius, the system identifies law enforcement vehicles using a combination of public safety dispatch data feeds, radio frequency monitoring, and crowd-sourced sighting reports submitted by the community. Each detected vehicle is tagged with its unit identifier, the agency it belongs to, its current operational status — on patrol, responding, on scene, or stationary — its speed, and its distance from your location.
All detected vehicles are plotted on an interactive dark-mode map with concentric radius rings at five and ten miles. You can tap any vehicle marker to view its full details, including its last-known address and the time of its most recent update. The map refreshes on demand via the scan button, which triggers a radar-style sweep animation across the detection zone to visualize the scan in progress.
The alert engine continuously evaluates every detected vehicle against your configured rules. If a vehicle enters your proximity danger zone, switches to a responding status, or arrives on scene, the app fires a visual toast notification immediately. When enabled, browser-level system notifications appear even when the tab is in the background, ensuring you never miss a critical update.
No personal location data is stored on our servers. Your position is used locally to calculate distances and trigger alerts, and it is never shared with third parties. All alert preferences and notification settings are saved directly in your browser, giving you full control over your data and your awareness experience.
