How does LEV Tracker detect nearby vehicles?
LEV Tracker uses your device's GPS location with high-accuracy enabled to scan a 10-mile radius around your current position. The scan identifies law enforcement vehicles — including patrol cars, K-9 units, unmarked vehicles, SWAT vans, motorcycle units, SUVs, and transport vans — and displays them on an interactive map with color-coded markers. A single scan typically detects between 12 and 20 vehicles within the radius, with distance, speed, and status information updated continuously in real time.
What is the detection radius?
The default detection radius is 10 miles (approximately 16.1 kilometers). The map also renders an inner 5-mile ring for closer-range awareness. Users can trigger a manual scan at any time using the Scan button, which performs a fresh sweep of the vicinity in under 2 seconds and updates the vehicle list with the latest positions, speeds, and statuses. The radius covers roughly 314 square miles of surrounding area.
Which agencies are tracked?
LEV Tracker monitors activity from local police departments, county sheriff's offices, state highway patrol, and federal agencies operating within your scan radius. Each detected vehicle is tagged with its agency, vehicle type, and current status — such as On Patrol, Responding, En Route, On Scene, or Stationary — giving you a complete tactical picture of nearby law enforcement activity across 4 jurisdiction levels and 8 vehicle categories.
Is my location data stored?
No. Your GPS coordinates are used locally on your device to perform the scan and are never stored on our servers. Alert preferences and notification rules are saved in your browser's local storage only, ensuring your location and activity remain private at all times. The platform processes 0 bytes of location data server-side.
Can I receive alerts?
Yes. The alert engine supports proximity alerts (when a vehicle enters a customizable distance threshold), status alerts (when a vehicle's status changes to Responding or On Scene), and browser push notifications. Users can configure up to 5 active alert rules simultaneously in the Settings page, with proximity thresholds adjustable from 0.5 to 10 miles in 0.1-mile increments.
